Micro Digger Weight and Transport: Trailer, Ground, and Attachment Checks

Micro Digger Weight and Transport: Trailer, Ground, and Attachment Checks

The weight of a micro digger is not just a specification for the brochure. It determines whether the machine can be towed, lifted, transported through soft ground, or used on an upper floor. It also influences stability when the boom is extended and the bucket is loaded.

This second guide focuses on transport and site capacity. The current SDLE10 product page is used as a verified example of a compact machine with published weight and dimension data.

Operating weight and loaded weight

An operating weight may include the standard machine, fuel, and fluids. The loaded transport weight can be higher if a bucket, blade, breaker, or spare attachment is carried. Always ask for the weight of the exact configuration being shipped.

The SDLE10 page lists a 0.67 t overall weight, 920 mm overall width, 700 mm body width, and 1700 mm maximum digging depth. These figures were checked on September 17, 2026. The loaded trailer weight will include the machine plus any accessories and securement.

Trailer selection

Compare the trailer’s gross vehicle weight rating, deck length, deck width, ramp capacity, and axle rating with the loaded machine. Check tire condition and suspension. A trailer that carries the static weight may still be unsuitable if the ramps are too steep or the load is not balanced.

Transport factor Question Risk if ignored
Trailer capacity Can it carry machine and attachments? Overloading and unstable towing
Ramp angle Can the tracks climb safely? Sliding or tipping during loading
Tie-down points Are they accessible and rated? Movement in transit
Ground surface Can it support the loaded trailer? Sinking or loss of control
Route Any narrow or weak sections? Access failure or damage

Ground pressure on site

Tracked machines distribute weight over a contact area, but soft or wet ground can still fail. The risk increases when the machine is loaded, when the boom is extended, or when the ground has been disturbed by excavation. Use protection mats, choose a safer route, or postpone work until conditions improve.

Do not use a machine on a floor, deck, or suspended structure unless a qualified person confirms the load capacity. The operating weight is only one part of the calculation.

Lifting and center of gravity

When the machine lifts a bucket or attachment, the center of gravity changes. A light micro digger may become unstable at long reach. Follow the published lifting limits and keep the load close to the machine. Never use the bucket as a crane unless the machine is configured and rated for that task.

Transport preparation

  • Lower the boom and secure the bucket.
  • Remove loose soil and debris.
  • Position the machine for balanced axle loading.
  • Use rated straps and check them after the first few miles.
  • Confirm the route and unloading area before departure.

A safe loading procedure

Position the trailer on firm, level ground and align the ramps with the tracks. Use a spotter if visibility is limited. Move the machine slowly, keep the bucket low, and avoid turning on the ramps. Once loaded, apply the parking brake or secure the machine according to the transport method, and check the tie-down straps after a short distance.

Do not stand behind or beside the machine while it is moving on a ramp. Keep the area clear and follow the machine manual for transport angle and tie-down points.

Weight and maintenance

The load on the tracks, pins, and hydraulic system increases with attachments and heavy work. Inspect track tension, mounting pins, hoses, and the blade after transport or demanding excavation. Replace damaged components before the next job rather than relying on a temporary repair.

Keep a record of the machine configuration and any changes that affect weight. This helps when booking transport or checking whether a floor or trailer can support the machine.

Example planning comparison

A 0.67 t micro digger with a standard bucket is a different transport task from the same machine carrying a breaker and spare bucket. The bare machine may fit a light trailer, while the complete working package may require a larger vehicle or two trips. Plan the full kit, not only the base machine.

Route and unloading plan

The delivery route may be more restrictive than the site itself. Check bridge limits, narrow lanes, overhead cables, gate widths, and the area where the trailer will stop. Confirm that the machine can be unloaded safely without blocking traffic or placing the operator near a slope edge.

For repeat jobs, record the route and any restrictions. A short written transport plan reduces the chance that a different driver or operator will make an unsafe assumption.

After each job, record any changes to the machine’s weight configuration, including attachments, fuel level, and accessories. This makes the next transport booking quicker and prevents an outdated weight figure from being reused.

If the route changes because of roadworks, weather, or site access, review the plan again. A safe transport procedure depends on current conditions, not only the original quotation, and should be reviewed with the driver and transport provider before departure.

Conclusion

Micro digger weight must be managed as a complete transport and operating load. Confirm the current configuration, check the trailer and ground, and keep attachments and lifting conditions within safe limits.
